This is based on a substory, as told in the Mahabharata by Vyasa to King Yudhishtira, about a young ‘devadasi’ woman sent on a mission. How the film makes us care for a vengeful man, is when it wins.
And Mohanlal’s acting prowess is on full display as a man of mystery who's new in town, or in this case, a valley.
A must-watch movie about Kerala society and the intricacies of familial relations in the south.Ī revenge thriller on par with movies of the same genre today, Thazhavaram is all about suspense, revenge and gore. The movie brings to light the caste hierarchy and how people must conform to it above anything else. Late actor Thilakan, who essayed the role of Perumthachan, gave life to the character of a proud Malayali caught up in a world dictated by caste. Perumthachan literally means a carpenter. The film is set in 1796, four years after the occupation of Malabar by the British East India Company, near the end of the Pazhassi revolt in 1797 led by Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja of Kottayam house. Overall Pazhassi Raja is a great flick to watch.Let’s take a look at some of his movies that will be watched and re-watched for years to come. The war scenes were impressive, except for the gravity defying stunt scenes. The direction was good and so was the legendary M.T.'s script. The music score by Ilaiyaraja is magnificent. The sets and costumes and the lighting were excellent, simulating that bygone era on the silver screen. The cinematography was simply brilliant, capturing the beauty of Malabar Region.

She has handled it well and so has Manoj K. Padmapriyas character maybe(I am not sure) first of its type in Malayalam films. Kaniha, on the other hand, could have done better. Sharath Kumar gives us an electrifying performance as Kunkan with his machismo and sword fights. Mammooty has given a graceful & effortless performance as Pazhassi Raja making him as Humanly as possible. Though Pazhassi was able to surprise the British with his tactics, traitors like Pazhayaveedam Chandhu helps the British in the later part of the warfare and capture each of Pazhassi's men.
British faced heavy setbacks in various confrontations.
Jayan) and Neeli(Padmapriya) who fights the British using Guirella Warfare tactics. He gets the full support from the kurichiers and tribal people headed by Thalakkal Chandhu( Manoj K. Pazhassi who is forced to flee from the his palace starts a carefully planned counter action, with the aid of Edachena Kunkan(Sarath Kumar)and Kaithery Ambu Suresh Krishna). Pazhassi who belonged to the Kottayam Royal family of Thalassery region oppose this and becomes the first ruler to resist them and fight it out. The movie begins with the British's decision to take heavy taxes from the local people under the Rajahs. Something as Grand and Majestic as this could pop out of Malayalam film industry!! I am proud, being a Malayali myself.
